Celebrating Samhain by Nancy Irons
CUUPs Sunday Service – Sunday, October 27th – Celebrating Samhain
By Nancy Irons
This is the Pagan New Year; a time to give thanks for the harvest, and a time to honor ancestors who have gone before us. Everyone is encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to the service.
Samhain is the Pagan, or Witches New Year. It celebrates the final harvest and recognizes this as a time of endings and death. . . . A time when the veil between the worlds is thin and we can commune with loved ones who have passed on. . . . Halloween grew out of this tradition, emphasizing ghosts, hauntings and treats to ward off tricks. Join us for an examination of the spirituality of these holidays.
